Valentina Scandolara brought WM3 Pro Cycling a second success this weekend. The Italian rider won on Belgian grounds Dwars door de Westhoek. She soloed to victory.
The riders had to deal with a strong wind throughout the day. Jeroen Blijlevens assigned his riders to attack soon after the start. The peloton already broke after 18 kilometres when 20 riders jumped away, including 5 with the green-black WM3 jersey. “Yara Kastelijn unfortunately had a flat tire which left us with 4”, according to Jeroen Blijlevens.
WM3 Pro Cycling was in full control of the race until the local circuit. The team decided to attack in the final laps with Lauren Kitchen firstly making a jump. Lotto-Soudal closed the gap, but the Belgian team and other riders had no comeback when WM3 Pro Cycling tried other break aways with Jeanne Korevaar, Moniek Tenniglo and Valentina Scandolara. The latter won in Boezinge.
“We finished it off very well”, says DS Jeroen Blijlevens. “The victory is very welcome, especially for Valentina. She was very close to success in the Tour of Chongming Island, and luckily this time she was able to persevere until the finish line.”
