Marianne Vos provided WM3 Pro Cycling a nice success in Belgian Helchteren. She won the Trophy Maarten Wynants, by beating Giulia Confalonieri (2nd) and Eva Buurman (3rd). Dutch road champion Anouska Koster took the 7th place.
DS Eric van den Boom witnessed a fairly structured race in which several riders tried to break away from the peloton, however unsuccessfully. The only escape worthwhile mentioning happened halfway in the race when a handful of riders, including Marianne Vos, jumped away, but got caught again.
“We saw several other escape attempts, but we realised rather quickly that it would end in a mass sprint, a scenario which we had discussed prior to the race. The team led Marianne Vos to 200 metres before the finish line, according to plan. She perfectly completed the teamwork”, says Eric van den Boom.
Marianne Vos was very satisfied, this being her first road victory of the season. “The spring has not been as well as expected. This is a welcoming victory”, says Marianne, surrounded by 3 team mates. “We only had 4 riders today as the rest of the team is racing in China. I rarely have had such a nice lead-out.”
Marianne is happy that the success of WM3 Pro Cycling is increasing. During the last couple of weeks, the team has made their presence felt by showing an attacking and attractive racing style with victories in the EPZ Omloop van Borsele and Gracia. “As a team, we improved our confidence and are showing now what we are capable of.”
