Following the Amstel Gold Race, the women’s peloton will embark tomorrow on the very tough Ardennes classic: La Flèche Wallonne. As the one-day-race in Limburg last sunday, this one is also part of the WorldTour, being the seventh leg. WM3 Pro Cycling’s squad consists of Riejanne Markus, Valentina Scandolara, Anna Plichta, Moniek Tenniglo, Kasia Niewiadoma and Lauren Kitchen.
The women’s peloton will cover over 120 kilometers in this Wallon classic, with seven climbs. Traditionally, the finish line is on the steep Mur de Huy with 1.3 kilometers of climbing and an average gradient of 9.6 percent. The Côte de Cherave, a couple of kilometers before the Mur, will undoubtedly add to the challenge of this race.
The mid-week Ardennes classic celebrates its 20th anniversary. Marianne Vos won most editions ever with an impressive 5 victories.
